„WordTheatre kicked off in February 2003 with stories by the renowned author Donald Hall read by film and television actors Richard Schiff, Tony Shaloub & Nancy Travis. When Hall got up to read his prose poem “The Night of the Day” he was visibly shaken and close to tears, moved by the extraordinary performances he had just witnessed. Hall went on to become Poet Laureate of America. The first WordTheatre at Venice, California’s Canal Club set a standard of excellence that has had authors worldwide, with the likes of Joyce Carol Oates, Tobias Wolff, Anthony Doerr, Amy Hempel, TC Boyle, Roshi Fernando, Will Cohu, Julie Orringer, Luiz Rodriguez, and John Edgar Wideman, returning to hear their work brought to life at WordTheatre.“
